Gli esercenti dei cinema indipendenti di Parigi ci aprono le porte di un mestiere sconosciuto alla maggior parte di noi, raccontandoci come hanno incominciato, come funziona una sala cinematografica, quali ostacoli devono superare per sopravvivere in un’epoca dominata dai multiplex commerciali. Dalle conversazioni emergono lentamente storie di famiglia, amicizie spezzate, sogni d’infanzia, incontri fortunati e una passione militante. Independent cinema exhibitors in Paris let us in on a profession unknown to most of us. We enter their cinemas, we watch them introducing the film at the Saturday night screenings, choosing the posters, or simply standing outside the cinema, perhaps to lure punters…?
They tell the story of how they became exhibitors, how a film theatre works and what are the obstacles they have to overcome to survive in the era of the commercial multiplex. These conversations reveal family histories, broken friendships, childhood dreams, happy encounters, passionate commitment. They all gravitate around one beating heart: an abiding love of cinema.

Les exploitants des cinémas indépendants de Paris nous ouvrent les portes d’un métier inconnu à la plupart d’entre nous. Ils nous racontent comment ils ont commencé, de quelle façon marche une salle de cinéma, et quels sont les obstacles qu’ils doivent surmonter pour survivre à l’époque des multiplexes commerciaux. Ces conversations nous dévoilent des histoires de famille, des amitiés brisées, des rêves d’enfant, des rencontres heureuses, des passions militantes. Elles se tissent toutes autour d’un même coeur pulsant: un amour inconditionnel pour le cinéma.
