The film follows the gaze of a foreign visitor on an aristocratic Neapolitan palazzo, Palazzo Serra di Cassano, in the heart of a working-class district. Walking through the frescoed rooms, that seem to have been slumbering for the past two or three centuries, you discover an important episode of the history of Naples: its revolution, that of 1799, inspired by the French Revolution. In this place of memories, traces discreetly appear of a high level contemporary intellectual activity - This ancient residence is the home of the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies, which has hosted, among others, such prestigious guests as Habermas and Derrida. The place therefore becomes a symbol of Italy; a country in which history and modernity, the arts and the intellect are entwined.
